THE CONSTRUCTION of a temporary bridge over the River Kent in Kendal is underway as part of the town's Flood Risk Management Scheme.
The Environment Agency has updated its Floodhub website to inform the public that the purpose of the bridge is to enable contractors to install the glass-panelled flood wall on the Waterside section of the river.
The update says: "We have started to undertake works to prepare the site at Miller Fields which will be our site working compound as we start to deliver a number of in-river works.

"One of the first activities will be to construct an in-river bridge and working platform which will provide access across the river from Miller Fields to Waterside and a working area to aid construction of the flood wall at Waterside.
"The in-river bridge and working platform will enable us to construct the glass panelled flood wall from the river side which increases our work area and removes any impact to the large main sewer pipe which runs along Waterside."
