Loungers UK reveals plans for former Burton unit in Kendal

Loungers plans to turn the former Burton store in Stricklandgate into a Lounge cafe bar.

The shop unit has remained empty since Burton’s departure in 2021.

A company spokesman said the business expects to open the bar ‘early next year’ and that 25 jobs will be created.

The spokesman promised customers eclectic artwork, oversized vintage sofas, ‘strikingly’ painted tables, ‘statement’ lighting and that the new Lounge will be a ‘home-from-home’ offering ‘delicious’ food and drink.

“We are delighted by the prospect of bringing Loungers to Kendal,” said the spokesman.

“Our Lounges strive to put community at the heart of hospitality, and our teams go the extra mile to make a difference.

“They are actively encouraged to connect with their communities by working with local groups, charities, organisations and businesses that are at the heart of the fabric of local life.

“We are very much looking forward to welcoming the Kendal community to our new Lounge.”

Customers can expect an all-day menu featuring everything from tapas and salads to burgers and mac and cheese, with vegans and those favouring a gluten-free diet catered for with their own menus.

And ‘particular attention’ will be paid to families with games, books, art materials, highchairs, changing rooms and a child friendly menu.

The team will also have a ‘community focus’, with plans for community events and groups.

An application for a pavement licence was submitted by the company to South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) earlier this month.

The application has been made for the sale of alcohol between 10am and midnight daily and the provision of late night refreshment between the hours of 11pm and 12:30am daily.
