WORK is progressing to transform a unit in Kendal town centre into a new charity shop.
Signs have gone up on the new British Red Cross site in Finkle Street, which was formerly clothing store Phase Eight.
There is also work being carried out to prepare the inside of the shop and the charity is advertising for volunteers.
According to a spokesman from British Red Cross, there is still no confirmed opening date for the shop.
In May, the organisation, which operates around 300 shops throughout the UK, applied to South Lakeland District Council for permission to install shopfront signage at 7 Finkle Street.
The 18th century unit is a Grade II listed building and according to planning documents, Thomas Cotton, a printer, brought out the first Kendal newspaper, the Kendal Weekly Courant, from the premises in January 1732.
