Netherfield Cricket Club were left frustrated by the rain for a second consecutive weekend after their away game against bottom of the table Vernon Carus was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

Matt Jacksons team who have now gone two weeks without a game were hoping to address a losing run which had seen them lose their last four in league and cup.

However persistent rain throughout the day saw the game abandoned as both sides had to settle for five points each.

A result which doesn’t help either teams cause especially Netherfield who remain in seventh place but are now 30 points adrift of fourth position a far cry from where they were four weeks ago as the team were initially in contention for second place.

Netherfield will be hoping for better weather conditions this Saturday when they welcome St Annes to Parkside Road in a huge game for the team.

St Annes currently occupy fourth place but go into the game on the back of an indifferent run of form in league and cup which included a defeat to Kendal at Shap Road.

Netherfield will be hoping to get some play and a positive result as the team face a huge month where they aim to climb up the table while competing in the ECB National T20 and Cumbria Cup competitions.

While the first teams frustrations continued, the Clubs second team continue to go from strength to strength after they qualified for the John Scott Cup final after defeating both Kendal Seconds and Holme in the new Hundred format.

The seconds who field a young squad with an average age of 17 impressed at Holme Cricket Club where they defended a score of 140 before seeing off Kendal after Bertie Medhurst top scored with a knock of 58.

While in the second game, Bertie Medhurst impressed after he top scored with an undefeated 40 before they defeated Holme.

The Seconds now play Whitehaven in the final with a date for the game to be confirmed.
