KENDAL's Annual Mint Gala welcomed a group of Ulverston swimmers in their latest competition.
The team came away with a highly satisfactory set of results from those taking part.
Like many other Clubs who have seen members move on due to Covid and lack of training they set about their task and led by the peerless Indya Sharp the youngsters produced plenty of P.B’s. County Champion Sharp, competing in four events was untouchable taking the gold medal in everyone.
A dream starts at 50 Backstroke saw her place herself in a position for success and battling it out with sister Orianne and Kendal’s Molly Moran.
Taking it on she quickly settled into her rhythm and forged ahead.
An immaculate turn and transition saw her start to wind it up and time her finish to perfection leaving Moran with Silver and Orianne Sharp with Bronze.
More was to follow in the 100 Butterfly where she dominated from start to finish and she never looked likely to lose, winning with a fair degree of ease.
Her 50 Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke were to produce similar results, all of which gave her club mates a huge boost. Another of the girls, Chloe Cowsill was also in top form and she ended up with a full house of six medals.
Her all-round performances throughout the day served her well and at Backstroke she proved to be outstanding at both 50 and 100m she stuck to her game plan and held off all challenges to emerge as worthy winner of both events.
Also, in the 100 Freestyle she really took the opposition apart setting a relentless pace over the first length and giving herself a clear two second lead out of her turn and transition. From then on, clearly in control she did just enough to hold off all her challengers and take an easy win.
Still not finished she continued to mix it with the cream of her age group by smashing her way to the silver medal in the 100m Individual Medley and Bronze in the 50 Freestyle.
Abigail Caine pulled out all the stops to win gold for her 50 Backstroke and Bronze at 100 Freestyle to bring her a nice reward for her swims and Rose Yearnshire had similar good fortune winning Gold at 100 Breaststroke, followed by a Bronze in the 50 Breaststroke.
That completed the squad’s collection of gold medals but they still had plenty of minor place winners. Orianne Sharp had a superb meet taking six medals in total.
Her 50 and 100 Breaststroke saw her making titanic efforts in similar style to her sister and a stunning 50 Butterfly gave her four Silvers and she then followed this up with another Bronze for her 50 Freestyle.
Jake Slee was one who despite performances to be proud of found himself in the silver medal spot at 50 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley and then collecting Bronze for 50 Butterfly and 100 Freestyle.
There then followed a succession of silver medallists with outstanding efforts from Benson Cowsill – 100 Individual Medley, Olivia Sturgeon - 100 Breaststroke, Adam Jones – 100 Butterfly, Mathew Foley – 50 Backstroke The squads final successes went to Foley with a Bronze for 100 Backstroke and Bronze to Phoebe Hunter in 100 Backstroke, then completion by William Maiden with a Bronze for his 50 Butterfly to send the swimmers home full of confidence.
