A BURNESIDE Councillor is drawing attention to issues around sewage problems and speed regulation in the community.
Ali Jama, Liberal Democrat councillor for Kendal Rural, campaigned on improving road safety and tackling potential flooding that had plagued the area over the years.
Cllr Jama said: “We have had problems with the sewage in the area. At Hall Park, it was originally created it was with a small population, but that has grown over the years and the system needs changing.
“It’s doesn’t have the capability anymore.
“Covid got in the way and things are expensive.
“There has been a problem with communication with some of the bigger companies, as we don’t know how long work will take sometimes.
“Residents want to sewers to be done and the roads to be fine.”
The area has also seen several calls for changes to be made to the speed limits, particularly outside of the local schools.
He added: “Lots of cars commute from Barrow to Windermere so we need the speed regulating in the area. But that’s a long process.
“These roads aren’t wide enough for 60 mph. We would aim for between 20-30 mph instead.
“After Hall Park and the back roads, the speed limit is also 60.
“The whole road system needs to be reviewed. Some data testing has been conducted in the area and we are waiting for the results of that. But the Highway need to crack down on the speed.
“Progress is good so far but what we would like to see is a zebra crossing outside the school.”
