A CULINARY duo from Cumbria is wowing the judges of a TV baking competition.
Mireia Ferreres Luna, a pastry chef in the Lake District and Robert Stacey, head chef at Levens Kitchen, near Kendal, will showcase their talents once again in the second episode of Bake Off: The Professionals, which airs tonight on Channel 4 at 8pm.
During last week’s episode, the pair got through the tough first challenge of creating 36 strawberry fraisiers and chocolate accompaniment unscathed.
And in the final showstopper they impressed judges Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden with their London themed treacle tart, complete with towering edible showpiece sculpture.
Cherish and Benoit praised the tart, which earned the team second place.
“Your mousse is as light as a feather,” said Cherish.
“Is there too much ginger? No, I think it is perfect.
“The layer of treacle filling is sensational, I love it.”
“The apple combination works without disturbing the treacle tart filling so I think you’ve got a beautiful piece of dessert here,” said Benoit.
“Well done.”
