A RESPECTED and family-owned Estate Agents in Kendal have been celebrated at the Northwest Family Business of the Year Awards 2022.

The awards ceremony was held at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool, and saw finalists from across the whole of the Northwest in attendance, with Hackney & Leigh Estate Agents, based in Kendal, being awarded with the Award for Business Services 2022.

Founded in 1982 by Derrick Hackney and John Leigh, the company will be celebrating its 40th year of trading later this year, and Simon Leigh, son of John, who joined the company in 2004, said, “This is a great way to kick start our birthday celebrations.

"The award is really for our amazing team and extended family (three of whom have been with the company for 35 of those 40 years) and without whom it wouldn’t have been possible.”

Derrick Hackney added: “Since we were announced as winners, we have had so many lovely messages of support and congratulations from clients, suppliers, and members of the communities in which we live and work in. Every message has been hugely appreciated, as without the support of everyone around us we wouldn’t be where we are today.”

As well as claiming the honour at the Northwest Family Business Awards, the company was also awarded with the top grades by the Best Estate Agency Guide (BEAG) for the fourth consecutive time earlier this year.

Commenting on the success of the company, Simon said: “Over the nearly twenty years I’ve been with the company, it has nearly doubled in size, both in terms of the size of our team, and the region we cover.

"When I joined, we had 5 offices with 30 people, and now we have 9 offices, with a team of almost 70."
