“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?”
So asks a famous poet in a timeless and unique Book.
Christians are also unique, in that they don’t follow a philosophy or a set of rules, but they rely on One who is alive and involved in our world today.
So, we are the ‘go to’ people when, to quote that poet again, "nations are in uproar and kingdoms fall" – or at least we should be.
We can inspire others with a sense of deep peace at a foundational level, because we are anchored to the Rock which cannot move.
“We will not fear, though the earth gives way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.”
Poetic hyperbole?
Certainly not for some parts of this poor, riven planet.
But do we fear in a different way in all the political upheaval that is going on?
God is shaking everything that can be shaken so that what cannot be shaken will remain.
Thankfully, the psalm I referred to at the beginning goes on to say: The LORD is in His holy temple; the LORD is on His heavenly throne.
If we have this core faith, that is the faith that God is in control, then I suggest that we can and should be able to bring hope and comfort to those whose hearts are troubled.
That is the answer to my opening question, by the way.
