FIRE crews battled to put out a barn fire for nine hours yesterday (March 9).
Firefighters from Appleby, Kirkby Stephen, Sedbergh, Shap and Penrith, as well as the service’s water bowser and the Joint Incident Command Unit were mobilised to reports of a barn fire at around 7:30am.
According to Appleby Fire Station on arrival firefighters found a ‘well developed fire’.
A spokesman from Appleby Fire Station said: “This was a protracted incident but luckily no one was hurt and all animals are safe.
“Crews were in attendance for 9+ hours.”
