THE new owners of a long-established hairdressers have revealed the salon’s new name and ethos.
Paperdoll- formerly David Graham Hairdressing- in Kendal’s Berry Yard was taken over by Natalie Wood in April.
Mrs Wood has 28 years of experience as a hairdresser and worked at the salon for several months before taking over the reins from former owner Graham Jones, who continues to serve his loyal clients.
She was later joined by her husband James, whose experience in business allowed her to focus solely on customer experience.
Mrs Wood is intent on creating a friendly and relaxing space for customers which is ‘mental health aware’.
“We embrace individuality and are mental health aware, making allowances for that in our services where necessary, for example no talking, limited touching, quiet times, and we are dog friendly,” said Mrs Wood.
“We welcome people from all walks of life and truly believe our clients should feel as comfortable as we do in the salon.
“We really strive for wearable hair to suit a client’s individuality and personal needs.
“Customer service is at the heart of everything.”
The salon also exclusively uses vegan, cruelty free and ethically sourced products from shampoo through to floor cleaner and is a member of the Green Salon Collective- which helps the salon recycle foils and hair.
“We will never use a product that has been tested on animals,” said Mrs Wood.
“We are the only salon in the area offering 100 per cent vegan and cruelty free hairdressing.
“You also won’t find us on social media, we believe in real conversations with real people and choose not to be part of what's becoming an increasingly negative space.”
Mrs Wood and Mr Jones have also been joined by Anya Martin, who is the salon’s graduate stylist and is studying for her Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing.
And the couple hope to add to their team as business grows.
