An award-winning butcher from Kirkby Lonsdale has scooped yet more accolades, though this time away from home turf, crossing the border to take on the very best.
Dales Traditional Butchers Ltd, on Market Street, Kirkby Lonsdale, scooped the Diamond (Best in Category) award for in the Cold Savoury category at the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards 2022.
They also won Gold awards for their pork and black pudding pie in the same category, and also for their sausage roll and steak pie, and a Silver for their macaroni pie, another Scottish classic.
The latest plaudits come after Dales Traditional Butchers were named Britain's Best Butchers Shop in 2021 by Meat Magazine.
Mark Duckworth of Dales Traditional Butchers said: "We have been very successful with our pies in competitions over the years - we were Small Producer winners at the British Pie Awards in 2020 with our pork and black pudding pie."
Mark said he was one of the only non-Scottish entrants in the World Championship Scotch Pie Awards:
"I've always been a fan of Scotch Pies.
"They're traditionally a peppery mutton pie, with a crusty hot water pastry base - a very traditional Scottish style.
"The Scotch Pie competition is probably one of the hardest competitions - the Scottish do things a little different from us English.
"We've won the Cold Savoury category the last three times, 2019 with pork and chilli jam, 2020 with pork and haggis and then this year."
The competition is generally dominated by Scottish butchers and bakers, but Mark explained why he feels such an affinity with the competition:
"I joined the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders about 15 years ago and they were always really helpful and supportive, so I was encouraged to go up and join their competition.
"They put on a really good ceremony up in Glasgow - everyone sits down and gets to try last years winning Scotch Pie - they had to cancel it this year because Scotland was strict with Covid."
Mark's affinity with Scottish produce doesn't stop there - in 2019 their homemade haggis was placed in the top 3 in Scotland's top competition, The Golden Haggis Awards.
He said: "Our best selling pie in the shop is the pork pie, but my favourite is either the scotch or the scotch and haggis - it's part of my staple diet."
