DESPITE having heavy mist descend on them Kendal RUFC won a great victory in Lancaster against Vale.

Kendal beat out Vale by three points after a tough game which the weather did its best to make harder.

The squad saw Reece Tomlinson step in for the injured Chris Evans, whilst Dan Reid made his debut replaced the injured Tom Moulton. 

Dan Lowther returned on the bench, with Ross McKay joining him, and Alex Ryder.

Vale, who were in nineth place at the time, were coming off a close call game against Stockport the weekend previously.

Knowing they would have to dig deep against Kendal, they began by getting the better of the early exchanges.

Despite this, they were denied an early try when Nick Carlton managed to intervene and put a kick through resulting in a score.

Dan Shorrock was caught with a dangerous high tackle around his neck by a Vale prop which resulted in a penalty.

Lewis Kincart went to take it quickly and put it into touch before Chris Park was called to go for the posts.

Both sides exchanged kicks until Vale’s Jordan Fern broke through to get the first try.

Kendal fought back in a later scrum which saw Dan Greenwood break through to claim a try.

It looked as if Vale would extend their half time lead, when a cross kick was gathered by the right wing, for a clear run to the line, but the referee adjudged him to have come from in front of the kicker and awarded Kendal the penalty.

In the second half, Kendal claimed the lead eight minutes in when Dan Shorrock got the ball and made a break forward before kicking it ahead.

A Vale player threw himself at the ball, but it just evaded him, giving Shorrock the simple task of following the ball to touchdown, and taking Kendal to ten points.

Kendal made a first change with Ross McKay replacing Dan Greenwood, after the score.

Vale re-took the lead after twenty minutes and scored again to make the scores 14v10.

After Vale were forced to concede a string of penalties, Kendal pressed forward their advantage.

Kendal moved the ball to Dan Lowther who burst through the centre to score. Chris Park added the conversion off the post.

Vale came back looking for a winning score and despite several vicious counter attacks Kendal held strong to claim the narrow victory of 17-14.

Dan Reid was named as the man of the match of Kendal.
