A LIFEBOAT team was called out after walkers were cut off by the tide at Silverdale.

Morecambe RNLI was called out at 11am yesterday to the report that three groups of walkers had been cut off by an incoming tide.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Steve Wilson decided to launch both the inshore hovercraft and the inshore lifeboat, which quickly made their way to the area.

The crafts began their respective search between White Creek and Jenny Brown’s point to confirm that all had got ashore, while he Arnside Coastguard Team searched the shoreline.

All casualties were eventually accounted for.

A Morecambe Lifeboat Spokesman said: “Wind conditions were worsening making piloting the hovercraft testing; however Adam Mills did an excellent job piloting the hovercraft.

“This was his first incident as a recently qualified hovercraft pilot and his training shone through enabling the hovercraft to continue throughout.

“Once all casualties were accounted for both craft made back to their respective stations.”

“Walkers on the sands should always check tide times and be aware of the fast flooding tides across The Bay which will swarm around you cutting you off from the shore,” said Mr Wilson.

“A great effort by both RNLI and coastguard ensuring all safe.”
