CUMBRIA Taekwondo Summerlands headed to the Copper box Arena in London and found great success by competing in the British Taekwondo Nationals.
Taking a small team of three, the squad returned with two medallists, one of which became the new National Champion.
Jack Dixon, 14, fought his way through three fights, winning his first by knockout to then go on and vehemently fight his way through both the semi final, and final to become the new British National Champion in the Male - 57kg Cadet Category.
Harry Westmorland also 14, fought and won his way into the semi finals before going out against a strong competitor to achieve a Bronze Medal in the Male - 65kg Cadet Category.
Mya Lightley, 10 competed in her first ever Advanced Class competition in the Female Child - 36kg category, narrowly missing out on a medal by three points to a more experienced fighter.
Unfortunately their 4th fighter, Jaidyn Livesey, 13 who was also scheduled to compete, had to withdraw due to illness.
Ryan Lightley, 3rd Dan Lead Instructor at Cumbria Taekwondo Summerlands said: “This is an unbelievable achievement for our members and for our club as a whole and I couldn’t be prouder of the effort and commitment these kids have put in this last year to get to where they are today.
"This event was a culmination of all their hard work throughout the lockdown period and this past year and they are testament to what can be achieved when you dedicate yourself to something and really give it your all.
“They competed against some of the best in the country and came away with their heads held high. Hopefully next year we will return with a larger, more experienced team ready to compete once more and hopefully bring home some more, well deserved medals.
"I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors; Northern Power Tools, Kendal Discount Carpets, Different Strokes Painting and Decorating and Cartmel solutions for their support throughout this last year, as their assistance has helped to support the club and its members throughout this challenging year.
"Anyone wishing to sponsor the club for the up and coming year of 2022 or would like more information about how to join, can contact Ryan on 07963414597."
