POLICE in High Furness have raised concerns over the number of quad bike thefts in the area.

Cumbria Constabulary are urging quad bike owners to ensure their vehicles are secure.

A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "It was a busy summer in Coniston and despite the large number of visitors there were very few incidents of antisocial behaviour were recorded.

"Safer Lakes patrols were out with partner agencies this summer and new signs put in place to remind everyone to respect the area and to enjoy the Lake District safely.

"It seems our area is being targeted again for quad bikes.

"We had some success the other week when officers out of the Blue Light Hub located a van with a stolen quad bike in it before the owner was even aware they’d been stolen. We have since had another theft of two bikes at Lowick Green stolen overnight from a barn.

"Please ensure your quads and equipment are secure. Should you require any crime prevention advice one will be happy to help."
