A BREWERY is set to host new monthly tap events at its site after a successful trial run in July.

The events, held on the first Saturday of the month, will offer people and businesses a chance to find out more about Kendal’s Gan Yam, which was founded by seven school friends who returned to the town to open the business.

Founders Christopher Gibbons, Christopher Talbot, Jonathan Le Mare, Jonathan Rigg, Nicolas Graves, William Burgess and William Wilkinson all attended the Queen Katherine School together and the brewery is just across the road on Shap Road Industrial Estate.

“We’re opening up the brewery as a bar for the day and you can try all the beers we have in stock at that time,” said Mr Le Mare.

“It’s an opportunity to taste our beer, see the production a bit and there’ll be seating and tables and music.

“And there’ll be food available from Wagtail pies.”

The friends began brewing beer in 2017 in London - initially from a stove top before moving to a 100-litre pilot kit to develop their recipes.

They launched their website for sales on May 17 and business has been going well according to Mr Le Mare.

“It’s been a massive learning curve, none of us have done this before,” he said.

“The interest and support in the area has been great.

“We’ve got a decent base in Kendal and we’re expanding into the Bay area and Lancaster.

“It’s going well and the autumn winter will be key for us.

“Growing our base and also moving into cask beer.”

The first event will be held on Saturday, October 2 from midday until 11pm and Sunday, October 3 from midday until 9pm.
