A CUMBRIAN student and ski champion has been praised for his most recent performance in a prestigious competition held in Manchester's Chill Factore.
Year eight student Jake Armitstead represented The Queen Katherine School at the Northern Schools Indoor Championships at Chill Factore on September 20.
Jake was in 2nd place after his first run and then had an amazing second run, which moved him up to 1st.
This was the first Schools Open competition for the 2021/22 academic year.
Prizes were presented in age groups and team prizes to the best male, female and mixed teams in Junior and Senior sections.
Both the South and North events were endorsed by Snowsport England as selection events for the National Schools Squad.
Headteacher of Queen Katherine School Jon Hayes said: “Congratulations Jake on your win.
"A fantastic achievement to get second place on your first run but to then go out and put in a time that moved you to the winning spot, shows real determination and nerve.
"Well done Jake from the entire school."
