AMONG the sites eagerly anticipating the school holidays and the arrival of families is Wordsworth Grasmere.
The attraction is home to Dove Cottage, where poets William and Dorothy Wordsworth arrived to live in1799, as well as a garden, museum and café.
Michael McGregor, director of the attraction, said: “As Wordsworth wrote, 'the Child is father of the Man', and under any circumstances we’d welcome children and families, but even more so this year.
"After a £6.5-million lottery-funded reimagining, Wordsworth Grasmere is Cumbria’s newest ‘must-see’ attraction, with a fantastic offer for all the family.
"Come and be inspired by Wordsworth’s words in the very place they were written.
"Indoors, you can step back in time and explore a completely new presentation of Dove Cottage as a family home."
Mr McGregor said the 'state-of-the-art' museum was 'full of interactive activities'.
He highlighted the activities of quill and ink writing and Wordsworth-themed Minecraft, referring to the popular building-based video game.
"We also have amazing new outdoor spaces to explore, including a woodland trail and sensory garden," he said.
"Throughout the summer, there will be family fun activities, from sensory stories to woodland wanders.
"We also have a lovely new café selling delicious home-baked cakes and locally-made ice cream.
"In other words, there’s something for everyone!”
Ahead of the reopening of the museum in May - the first time the public saw it after improvements had been made - Jeff Cowton, curator and head of learning at Wordsworth Grasmere, said: "We are overwhelmed by the way in which the interpretation and design makes Wordsworth’s words live - you see them in stone and in lights as you arrive and leave; they are at the heart of the introductory film and within the home itself - and they are everywhere in the museum.
"As curator and head of learning, I take special pleasure in seeing the manuscripts on which they are written come alive in the beautiful displays."
Improvements to the museum constituted the second phase of work at the attraction, with the first phase - in summer 2020 - encompassing Dove Cottage itself.
