A PLETHORA of Lakes food producers and product makers are set to feature in an upcoming documentary series about a popular Cumbrian service station.
A Lake District Farmshop is a four-part Channel 4 series celebrating Tebay Services and follows key members of staff, as well as the Cumbrian farmers and producers who help maintain the 50-year-old family-owned business.
Firstly, is master butcher Dave Morland who is Tebay born and bred.
His passion for inspiring the next generation of butchers is followed throughout the series, from teaching apprentice butchers to sharing lessons in sausage making at Tebay Primary School.
Mr Morland works closely with farm manager Bob Day to ensure the supply of native-bred beef, lamb and Herdwick mutton from the farm to Tebay Services, where it is served in the Kitchen and sold on the traditional butchers’ counter in the Farmshop.
Secondly is Staveley based chef turned artisan baker Patrick Moore, who, having inherited a love of real, slow-fermented bread from his German mother, founded More?
During the series Mr Moore talks about how making great bread benefits his mental health and the enduring relationship between supplier and services.
Also featured is Wabi Sabi, a small restaurant and shop in Ambleside, which was opened by self-taught chef Bing Cao and his wife, Cara Ou, in 2016.
When the pandemic forced them to close their restaurant temporarily, Bing and Cara approached Tebay Services with an idea to sell fresh sushi and ramen kits, using local ingredients including Herdwick mutton and Farmshop buyer Alexander Evans was immediately intrigued.
And finally, is natural skincare company Pure Lakes who work with the services to create a bespoke range of skincare inspired by the outdoors and Lake District landscape.
The series follows owners Claire and Gareth McKeever from soap workshop to services as they work with Tebay’s buying team to bring a new product to the Farmshop.
The programme’s first instalment will air on July 10 at 8pm and runs for four weeks.
