A section of the A66 has now re-opened following a serious crash yesterday.
The serious collision between a tractor and a Ford car happened at the A66/A595 roundabout, west of Cockermouth.
The A66 was closed at Cockermouth while collision investigation work was carried out at the scene.
Emergency services were called at 5.50am yesterday morning to the serious incident.
A spokesman for Cumbria Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters were called to a report of a serious road traffic collision on the A595 at Papcastle.
"Firefighters used cutting gear to extricate casualties from the vehicle.
"Casualties were passed on to the care of North West Ambulance Service.
"Crews were in attendance for one hour."
A spokesman for the Great North Air Ambulance said: "We attended to a report of a road traffic collision this morning on the A595.
"We sent our overnight response car with a doctor and paramedic."
A diversion route was in place while collision investigation work took place.
