BESOTTED newlyweds who met online had a Star Trek and Beauty and the Beast-themed wedding.
Sarah Lawson, 32, from Kendal, and Christopher Coleman, 35, from Essex, incorporated aspects of their personalities for their big day last month.
The pair, who now live in Bramley, met on the dating website Christian Connection and went on their first date on June 2, 2018.
Mr Coleman, who works as a lay pastor for the Methodist Church, said the pair shared their experiences of challenges throughout their life.
He said: “What struck us both about each other after hearing each other’s stories and history — Sarah overcoming challenges through her life and myself with a complex heart condition — is that we have both developed in to compassionate, thoughtful and caring individuals.
“We loved this about one another.”
The pair became engaged on May 26, 2019, after Mr Coleman proposed during a trip to Sheffield.
Mrs Coleman, who is about to embark on a new career in childcare in July, described the moment as a ‘complete surprise’.
She said: “It was a complete surprise to me and all I remember thinking was ‘is this really happening?’.”
The couple tied the knot at St George’s Church in Kendal on Saturday, May 29, in front of 30 guests after rearranging their original wedding date due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Coleman’s were adamant on including the theme of Star Trek and Beauty and the Beast in the ceremony and reception.
“Our colour scheme matched the colours for Star Trek, The Original Series,” Mr Coleman said.
“Sarah came down the aisle to ‘How Can a Moment Last Forever’, from the live action version of Beauty and the Beast.
“Our musician, John Wright, played combinations of Christian worship music, Star Trek music and Disney songs while we were signing the register.
“Our faith was especially important to both of us, so we had a Christian ceremony including Bible readings, hymns, prayers, and a sermon preached by a good friend of ours, Rev Imran Malik. We exited to ‘It must be love’ by Madness, which also reflects our fun characteristics and made people smile.
The newlyweds had their reception at Kendal Rugby Club and are hoping to host their evening celebration at a later date.
Mr Coleman said: “Our Beauty and the Beast/ Star Trek cake was awesome by Millbridge Farm Cakes who created a silhouette design of our themes and our colour scheme with a Victoria sponge and fruit cake which was super yummy.
