A HISTORIC structure has been gutted by fire this morning.
A fire at the Buck House deer shelter on the Dallam Tower Estate in Milnthorpe is believed to have started at around 6:30am this morning.
The fire was brought under control by two fire engine crews from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service.
Officers from Cumbria Constabulary and fire crews were still at the scene late this morning and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
Julian Oston, land agent for Dallam Tower Estate, said: “As far as we are aware the fire started at about half past six this morning, that was when it was reported.
“It was attended by two engines who were on scene very quickly.
“There will be an ongoing investigation to try and establish what the cause of the fire was.
“We would appeal to anybody who has seen anything to contact 101.
“From our point of view it’s a very old iconic building so it’s tragic that this has happened.”
