Kendal Town continued to make the most of their return to action as they secured their second victory in the pre-season play-offs.
Ben Anderson's brace guided the Mintcakes to their second win since returning to action after they defeated a strong Morecambe Academy side 2-1 at the Parkside Road Stadium on Tuesday night.
Player-manager Chris Humphrey made changes for the game which included the return of Jna’I Butterfield Steed, while young goalkeeper James Hoskins played in place of Morgan Bacon.
Seydou Bamba and Hugo Rodriguez were among the players to be rested, while some players from the reserve team also featured.
Kendal made a strong start and created opportunities before opening the scoring when Anderson scored from close range following on from a good attack by the team.
The Mintcakes looked sharp and played some fluid football while at the back Hoskins impressed, making some good saves and collecting a number of dangerous deliveries from crosses and corners.
However, Morecambe's Academy, who are more than familiar with Town's ground after playing their last seven league games at the stadium, began to play some good football with pace on the wing as well as contributions in defence from Ayo Shogbeni.
The visitors equalised midway through the first half from the penalty spot following a foul in the area, before Jack Greenwood converted the spot kick.
Morecambe had a spell of possession going into the closing stages of the half as Kendal defended well.
Kendal started the second half well, with Anderson scoring his second following another good attack, while Morecambe applied pressure against Kendal's resolute defence.
However, Humphrey's side created further chances and looked the sharpest they have been since they returned to action before seeing out the game to register the win.
Kendal are at home to Chorley on Saturday in another behind-closed-doors friendly before hosting Millom in the Bill Robson Cup on Tuesday night, with the game kicking off at 7.30pm.
With future games planned and new players being signed onto the squad, Kendal Town’s future is a bright one.
Many are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to welcome fans back into the ground to watch future matches.
Since being able to return to training, Humphrey has made safety his primary concern and is working to ensure the team remain safe throughout the remainder of the lockdown, while ensuring that the months of lockdown does not result in unnecessary injuries during training.
The pre-season games are to act as warm-ups for the squad in anticipation for the upcoming league season.
Since getting back onto the pitch, Kendal played a friendly match against their reserves which they won 3-0.
They also played against Carlisle United’s Reserves and Bamber Bridge last week, losing both matches despite strong performances.
