With lockdown rules in place, the people of Eden were forced to stay indoors for most of the year.
However, that didn’t stop the criminals from coming out to play as 3207 crimes were reported in Eden last year.
According to the data from Cumbria Constabulary, violent and sexual offences were the most reported crimes with 1108 reports in total.
Anti-social behaviour reports were also high (763), followed by criminal damage and arson reports (313) and public order offences (254).
Robbery and theft from person offences were the least reported Cumbrian crime in 2020 (3).

According to the data, one Eden street stood out when it came to crime reports.
Market Square in Kirky Stephen saw 37 crime reports in 2020.
The most reported crime on this street were for anti-social behaviour offences (14).
However, violent and sexual offence reports were also high (12)
Penrith’s Cromwell Road also saw a high number of crime reports (35) followed by Langton Street, Middlegate and Carleton Road- all of which received 28 crime reports.
However, some streets didn’t see any crime reports in 2020, including Tarn Flatt in Ulverston and Wingate Road in Wingate, to name a few.
How many crimes have gone unsolved?
Out of the 3207 crime reported in Eden, 4.2 per cent of them are currently awaiting a court outcome.
In 22 per cent of cases, no suspect was ever identified.
In 1001 of the reports, police were unable to prosecute a suspect and a further 195 reports are still under investigation.
