REPORTS of recent anti-social behaviour on a Kendal housing estate include one of screws being put under car tyres.

The news came as police announced they had been patrolling Sandylands and 'dealt with' a number of youths there in past weeks.

They urged people to 'keep reporting any anti-social behaviour'.

On social media this week, a Sandylands resident said her children had spotted a screw under each front wheel of the car on her drive.

She said the screws were pointed upwards so it appeared the action had been a deliberate attempt to damage or deflate the tyres.

"People are getting a bit concerned," said Cllr Adam Edwards, chairman of Sandylands Residents' Association.

"On the road to Christmas, there was activity then.

"There seems to be an increase in activity of late, or a noticeable increase anyway."

“It could be related to the lockdown - with the kids not being at school and not having activities and all the stuff that they would normally be able to do, they’re generating their own interests.

“At the moment, because of the pandemic situation, we’re kind of stuck.

“Parents need to be aware of what their kids are doing and making sure they stay at home and are not really going out.”

Cllr Edwards said he had been in touch with the police community support officer for the estate and been told that a garage on Sandylands had been boarded-up because youths were gathering there.

He said plans to get a youth club - 'Kendal Youth Zone' - up and running were progressing.

The youth club, the progress of which has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, has benefitted from technology such as virtual reality headsets and DJ equipment thanks to National Lottery funding.
