MOUNTAIN rescuers were mobilised after two walkers became lost in the dark on Scafell Pike.
The pair, who had ascended the mountain from Wasdale Head, had no torches and limited battery life on their phones.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (WMRT), which was notified of the incident at around 8.15pm on Sunday, therefore decided against talking the lost walkers off by phone.
A party of team members was sent to meet them, with 'phone find' technology placing them at Cam Spout Crag, Eskdale.
A WMRT spokesman said rescuers arrived just before midnight.
The spokesman said: "(Team members) descended from above as the ground below the walkers was steep and craggy.
"The party were warmed up and walked off back to Eskdale where a taxi took them back to their car at Wasdale Head."
