THE chief executive of a major environmental organisation has shared his expertise with the Kendal Climate Change Citizens’ Jury.
The citizens’ jury process currently under way is a public discussion, guided but not led by experts, which will lead to recommendations about how the town can combat the climate emergency.
And Chris Stark, chief executive of independent body the Committee on Climate Change, which advises the UK and devolved governments on emissions targets, dropped-in on the jury, marking the first of six guest commentator sessions which will be held.
Pete Bryant, project lead for Kendal’s citizens’ jury, said: “All 20 members of the jury returned for the second session. Confidence amongst the group is growing as relationships are developed and as the participants get more used to using Zoom.
"The jury members are successfully creating a space where each of them feels comfortable asking questions and building knowledge.”
Between now and mid-October, the jury members will listen to and question a range of expert commentators before creating a set of recommendations which will be presented to the town council and other key organisations.
Today the jury will hear from Mike Berners-Lee, a leading expert in carbon footprinting.
