AMBLESIDE will see the opening of a new public house when the lockdown is concluded.

Colin Monk & Alex Mauro, owners of High Spirits Leisure Group, have acquired a new venue in the town which will produce 20 new jobs and provide locals and tourists with an independent pub and restaurant.

The new pub will be named The Flying Fleece and will be situated within the town’s historic mill and pays homage to its history with its working waterwheel, which has also been refurbished.

It will present a similar offering to their highly successful sister pub The Flying Pig in located Bowness.

Colin Monk, CEO of High Spirits Leisure Group said: “This is a big opportunity and move during a time of uncertainty for the hospitality industry, opportunities like this do not come along very often.”

Renovations are currently underway, and the pub is expected to open in July.

This will be the seventh venue owned by the High Spirits Leisure Group, with other establishments in Windermere, Bowness, Coniston & now Ambleside.

The leisure started trading in 2014 and currently operate six individual venues.

The Flying Fleece will be their first pub owned in Ambleside.

The group are also responsible for the running of The Flying Pig, Cafe Riva and The Arts Bar all of which are in Bowness-on-Windermere, the Howbeck Guest House which is in Windermere and as of this year The Yewdale Inn and Enzo’s Caffé & Pizzeria in Coniston.

The group look forward to expanding out into Ambleside and meeting the market’s needs once the Covid lockdown has passed and pubs reopen. Early speculation suggests that some pubs may be able to open their pub gardens as early as this month.

It will be located on Rydal road, Ambleside, Cumbria LA22 9AN.
