FORTY six new homes have been given the go-ahead for Kirkby-in-Furness.
The application by developers Brookhouse Group, based in Sale, went before South Lakeland District Council’s planning committee on Thursday, December 19.
The new homes will go on land next to Burlington Church of England Primary and Nursery School on a site allocated for housing and owned by Holker Estates Ltd.
Tom Whitehead, for the company, told the planning committee that work on the homes would start in spring. The scheme includes nine affordable homes and bungalows in addition to a range of two, three and four-bed detached, semi-detached and ‘mews-style’ homes.
Mr Whitehead said: “It is worth setting out just how hard we have worked on this scheme in response to local comments and the setting. It’s a great scheme and it has taken 20 months to get to this point.”
Cllr Janette Jenkinson, a member of the planning committee, said: “I think this is a good scheme and it is going to be good for Kirkby.”
