EDEN District Council last night gained a Liberal Democrat councillor at the Shap ward by-election.
Neil McCall received 184 votes. The Conservatives' Sean William Quinn polled 128 and Kerryanne Wilde, of Putting Cumbria First, totalled 67 votes.
The turnout was 34.36 per cent from a total electorate of 1109.
