"A GIANT heart" of people - including the Poet Laureate - is to be created on the northern slopes of Arnside Knott on Saturday afternoon (September 21).
Arnside and Silverdale AONB Landscape Trust says the heart will form part of a "National Moment" to celebrate 70 years since Parliament passed pioneering legislation leading to the creation of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Arnside has been chosen as the host venue for Saturday's visit by Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, who is to read a poem specially commissioned to mark the anniversary.
Anyone who would like to take part is asked to gather at the top of Redhills Pasture on the north-eastern side of the Knott by 1pm. There is no parking on site, so walking is advised.
The landscape trust is keen for the event to reflect the range of people who love the landscape. Everyone attending is asked to wear clothes that reflect their role, such as children in school uniform or Brownie and Scout outfits; mechanics in overalls; hikers in boots and backpacks; and artists waving a paintbrush.
Everyone who attends will receive a commemorative copy of Mr Armitage's poem to take home.
The event is to be filmed for use on social media and online, and the media also have been invited.
