JEWELLERY shop Peter George Banks is to close.
The outlet on Market Place has been a regular and well loved feature of the town centre for several years, but a closing down sale is currently taking place which has attracted a busy stream of customers.
And it is understood that the shop will close its doors for the final time at the end of August or earlier if stocks are sold out before that time.
The news comes just days after The Little Bow childrenswear shop on Highgate at the south end of the town centre shut down.
A message posted on the shop’s Facebook page thanked all the customers who had supported the venture since it opened in 2018 and also announced plans for a new online operation.
The town has also seen the closure in the last few weeks of the Monsoon Accessorise clothing shop and the KFC restaurant and takeaway, both of which were located on Stricklandgate.
The owners of both Monsoon and KFC announced that the reason for closure was that a decision had been taken not to renew the leases on the shops.
Earlier this year the Evans cycle shop, which was also on Stricklandgate, was closed down by the chain’s new owners Sports Direct.
And delicatessan and cafe Pomegranate and Sage, which opened in early 2018 on Wainwright’s Yard, closed in April.
