A FORMER pupil of Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale, has been presented with the Firmin Sword of Peace for helping to restore power and water to the hurricane-hit British Virgin Islands in 2017.
Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Walker took part in the humanitarian Operation Ruman in the Caribbean with the Royal Engineers, said his father Will Walker, of Holme.
The ceremonial sword was presented by armed forces minister Mark Lancaster at Lt Col Walker's barracks in Nottingham.
