A WOMAN from Broughton-in-Furness who was awarded an OBE for her services to the Government has passed away at the age of 93
Mary Josephine Lackey, who was also made a Companion of the Order of the Bath for her service, was the daughter of William and Winifred Lackey.
She was educated at King Edward VI High School in Birmingham and then at Oxford University's Lady Margaret Hall.
Ms Lackey spent the majority of her working life with the Civil Service in London and was under secretary at the Department of Trade and Industry for many years.
She was awarded her OBE in 1966 and made a CB in 1985, and a measure of her esteem was that she had her own entry in 'Who's Who.'
