A CAR fire on the A590 has seen one lane closed after fire crews worked to battle the flames.

At around 4.43pm on Thursday emergency services were called to Lindal following reports of a fire.

Pictures taken by passing motorists show firefighters working to extinguish a car engulfed in flames just before the Lindal Dip.

Cumbria Police have since confirmed they closed the eastbound lane of the road until the area could be made safe.

The fire is believed to be out at this point, with Cumbria Fire and Rescue working to damp the area down, and make it safe.
