AHEAD of Gas Safety Week - September 18 to 24 - the heating experts at CORGI are warning people about the telltale signs of a faulty boiler.
As they get older, boilers are more prone to faults which could put you and your family in danger, says the company, such as the release of deadly carbon monoxide.
Here are CORGI's top tips to look out for:
- Does your boiler constantly need resetting? If so, you may have a problem. If your boiler is old and needs frequent repairs, it’s recommended that you get a new one as it may become a hazard.
- Got the heating on but still feeling the chill? This is a clear sign you’re not receiving the full benefits of heating in your home, but still wasting energy and paying the heating bills.
- Is your boiler emitting a strange smell? Check regularly for any dark markings around your boiler, too, as these could be signs your boiler's burning function is faulty. Get this checked by a Gas Safe registered engineer as soon as possible as your boiler could be leaking carbon monoxide.
- Is your heating making odd noises? The pump in your boiler may not be running correctly or the bearing of your fan could be getting old. This wear and tear can cause issues so make sure to get it checked by a qualified engineer.
- Is the carbon monoxide detector beeping? If this happens, contact a Gas Safe registered engineer to investigate. You can also ring the National Gas Emergency Helpline on 0800-111999 for assistance.
