A planning statement prepared by HOW Planning explained that there will be 'significant improvements' to unit 46 which would create a new office headquarters for manufacturer, Mardix, allowing it to expand its operation.
"The Kendal site is the company's headquarters and receives potential new customers as well as existing customers," the document said. "To ensure that the business remains able to continue its recent strong growth and expansion, it is vitally important to ensure that the company presents a positive face to its customers.
"It is felt that at present, the site does not present a positive arrival to HQ for customers and investors and that an improved customer arrival experience is required to help the company maintain its growth. It is envisaged that the proposed alterations will allow Mardix to continue to expand and increase staff levels to around 400 on the Castle Mills site."
As well as the Mardix manufacturing operation, the site is home to The Factory, which is made up of studio spaces for creators as well as The Factory Tap bar.
The car park will consist of 164 spaces, six disabled car parking spaces, 30 cycle spaces and eight motorcycle spaces.
