A DEVELOPMENT of 16 new homes can be built on the outskirts of High Bentham after getting the go-ahead by Craven councillors.

The large detached house and commercial building, housing a business making horse boxes, which was previously on the site, had been cleared and the business relocated elsewhere in the town, Craven District Council's planning committee was told.

Applicant Carr and Stocks Development proposes a mixture of detached, semi-detached, and terrace homes on the site, off Low Bentham Road, including six affordable.

Councillors were told the affordable properties would be terraced properties fronting the road, while the larger homes would be at the back of the site.

Ward councillor and member of the planning committee Cllr Linda Brockbank said she regretted the loss of an employment site in the town, but was glad to see that the business had relocated to another site in Bentham.

She said she would also like to see the terrace homes sited further back from the road, and hoped there would be no more building on the 'green wedge' at the edge of the town.
