EXPLODING food will take centre stage at two free science shows which will be part of Morecambe’s Carnival weekend on Saturday,August 19.
The shows will take place at EDF Energy’s Science Zone at The Platform, Morecambe, starting at 10.30am and 1.30pm and will star Dan Plane, one of the Royal Institution ‘Science in Schools’ presenters.
During the shows children and families will find out about the incredible amount of energy contained in the food that goes in your mouth in an interactive show packed with exciting chemistry and physics demonstrations.
Heysham Power Stations is setting up the Science Zone for the day at The Platform as part of its commitment to encouraging more young people to look at careers in science and engineering.
Richard Bradfield, station director at Heysham 1 power station, said: “We have a very successful partnership with the carnival and this year we have decided to take over The Platform on Saturday and turn it into a Science Zone.

“The ‘Explosive Food’ shows will be very good, and will bring science to life for the audiences and hopefully inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.
“We welcome our community to the Visitor Centre and the power stations every day, but it’s great that we can also support key local events such as the carnival with this free show.”
The shows will be suitable for youngsters aged seven upwards and tickets are available from Morecambe and Lancaster’s tourist information centres, or from Heysham Power stations’ Visitor Centre.
During the day The Platform will also host interactive workshops, which will include the chance to try out some virtual reality headsets and there also be a chance to meet members of the power stations’ team.
