TIM Farron will this evening launch the Liberal Democrat’s 2017 General Election manifesto, with a call to ‘Change Britain’s Future’.
Change Britain’s Future is a plan for a fairer Britain with good schools and hospitals, a clean environment and an innovative economy.
The manifesto will include fully-costed commitments to investing in public services. This will include a penny on the pound in income tax which will pay for a £60million boost for health and social care in Cumbria. The Lib Dems have also committed to spend £42million to reverse cuts to Cumbria’s schools.
The Lib Dems will also launch a £100bn package of infrastructure investment to help build 300,000 homes a year, improve road and rail links and install fibre-optic broadband across the UK. There are also policies to support entrepreneurs, increase apprenticeships and promote renewable energy.
The manifesto also includes a commitment to give the people the final say on the Brexit deal.
Lib Dem leader Mr Farron said: “The Lib Dems are setting out a bold and ambitious plan for a brighter future. While the Conservatives plan hundreds of millions of pounds of cuts to local hospitals and local schools, the Lib Dems have set out a credible plan to invest in vital services. We will invest in our schools to give all our children a fair chance in life, and look after the ill and elderly by investing in health and social care. We will protect everyone’s future by promoting renewable energy and an innovative economy.
“It has been a massive privilege to be the MP for our area. I am proud of my track record of fighting for the South Lakes, and know that local people will judge me on that record. My priority will always be to stand up for our area.”
