KENDAL-born 18-year-old Eli Aldridge is to represent Labour for the Westmorland and Lonsdale seat in June's General Election.
Eli, who is one of the youngest candidates in this important election said: “I’m overjoyed at the prospect of representing Labour in the area that I have lived my entire life.”
“Labour has a strong record in Cumbria. The County Council, which is Labour-led, has implemented a lot of initiatives that have positively affected the lives of many in Westmorland & Lonsdale – despite a programme of austerity imposed by a Tory Government. I believe that a Labour Government would strengthen our community and work for the many not the few.”
Born at Westmorland General Hospital on Christmas day Eli is currently studying towards his A-Levels at Queen Katherine School in Kendal. As the Youth Officer for Labour within Westmorland & Lonsdale he has worked hard to engage young people in politics. Eli has campaigned locally on many important issues and is particularly passionate about local health provision.
“Under the Conservatives the NHS in Cumbria has faced severe cuts. Labour recognises the importance of integrating Health & Social Care to ensure our loved ones receive the best possible care. Furthermore, I will campaign on behalf of our amazing NHS staff to ensure they are paid a fair and equitable rate.” said Eli.
Paul Braithwaite, Chair of South Lakes Labour commented “I’m thrilled that Eli has been selected as the Labour candidate here in Westmorland & Lonsdale. As a local he understands the issues of the area and offers a true alternative to the career politicians that will be representing the Liberal Democrats and Conservative Party.”
