LOCAL Liberal Democrats have selected Matt Severn as their candidate for the General Election in Morecambe & Lunesdale.
Matt previously stood for the Liberal Democrats in the constituency in 2015. Local Lib Dems, who have seen their membership triple in the last two years, unanimously picked Matt in Wednesday's meeting in the constituency, at Skerton Liberal Club.
Mr Severn said: "I am very proud to be the candidate once more in Morecambe & Lunesdale. I care passionately about North Lancashire.
"The Liberal Democrats are the only party opposed to a hard Brexit.
"Theresa May's Conservatives and Jeremy Corbyn's Labour have shown that they don't care about the economy or about progressive values.
"The Liberal Democrats want to give people the chance to have a say on the final Brexit deal and we believe Britain should remain a member of the Single Market after Brexit.
"Morecambe & Lunesdale's economy, based on things like Heysham Power Station, Heysham Port, Farming & Tourism, depends heavily on access and trade with our European partners.
"Theresa May & Jeremy Corbyn are putting jobs, investment and livelihoods at risk.
"The Brexit squeeze will hit people in the pocket across the constituency, with the poorest families hit hardest.
"This election is a chance to change our future and stop a hard Brexit that will leave us all poorer."
Matt, 30, grew up in the constituency in Bolton-le-Sands and went to Ripley St Thomas in Lancaster. He is married to Penny, from Yealand Redmayne and they have a one year old daughter, Molly.
Matt is a District Councillor in Kendal. He has a long and successful record of campaigning on health and transport issues and against government cuts.
