A FAMILY was helped safely down from Great Whernside, near Kettlewell, on Saturday after getting lost in bad weather.
Members of the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Team - who were hosting an open day at the Grassington headquarters at the time - were called by police at just before 1pm.
A UWFRA team spokesperson said: "While the team were being deployed, the police contacted the family by mobile phone and confirmed their location was at the summit. They were told to stay put and await assistance.
"We soon located them and, after warming them, we escorted them back to our Land Rovers and transported back to Kettlewell."
The informal open day was to show supporters and members of the public the team’s new £300,000 extension at its premises in Hebden Road.
