EMMERDALE actor Mark Charnock, who plays Marlon Dingle in the popular television soap, opened the 75th annual Giggleswick Horticultural Show.
Held in Giggleswick School's junior school pavilion, the event was hit by the summer's poor weather, but despite lower numbers than usual, plenty turned out in support.
Mark, who lives in nearby Langcliffe, talked about how important such events were for communities before enjoying a look at the exhibits.
Show secretary Ruth Dugdale said it was good to see the show surviving for so long, adding it had been held continuously, ap;art from a break in World War Two.
"The numbers were a little down on previous years, whether that was down to the weather, it is a horticultural show, and the weather has not been the best, but it did mean that it was not as crowded."
And although she thought the event would not raise as much for local good causes as it did last year, when £900 was divided between Settle Swimming Pool, Cave Rescue, Manorlands and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, a meeting would decide next month which charities the proceeds would go.
Meanwhile, Mrs Dugdale said the society could do with new members to help it go forward. Anyone interested should email GHShow@outlook.com, or look at its Facebook page.
