A SOUTH Lakeland school has been given an eco award for its environment and sustainability work.
Hawkshead Esthwaite Primary School received its Green Flag Eco Award – the fifth time it has done so – for its efforts in reviewing the school's green credentials.
Pupils on the school's eco committee led the review which looked into energy use, healthy eating, growing its own food, recycling, biodiversity, water consumption, transport to school and global links with other schools.
Headteacher Joyce Hallam was delighted to see the school achieve the award one more.
"It's all about being sustainable and involving the children within that," she said. "It's just creating a huge sense of citizenship and care towards the environment so they grow up with a strong sense of understanding of how they are going to be responsible for our planet. That is ongoing all the time."
