POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man armed with a handgun burst into Arnside post office and demanded money.
The attempted robbery on the Promenade happened at around 5pm yesterday (Monday) evening.
The man, who was described as white, aged 30 to 40, approximately 5ft 2in tall, of plump build and with blond/gingery stubble, was seen getting into an old blue car.
He was wearing rimless glasses, a dark baseball cap and a dark coloured anorak down to his thighs. Police described the man as "scruffy".
A Cumbria police spokesman said the car drove along Silverdale Road towards the Albion pub.
