PLANS to charge residents on an Endmoor estate for a replacement sewerage system have been put on hold after an urgent report was ordered to examine the issue of the Summerlands septic tank.
Shocked householders who were told they would each have to stump up £6,600 for repairs to a faulty sewerage system near their homes or face a possible fine', have won a reprieve after South Lakeland District Council suspended any action to charge them a proportion of the final costs.
The out-of-date 1950s septic tank is beyond repair and pictures taken by residents, which were displayed at a meeting of SLDC cabinet this week, showed effluent leaking out of the sewerage system where pipes had broken.
The Environment Agency has warned that enforcement action will be taken unless the situation is resolved by .
