THE Most Revd and Rt Hon Dr John Sentamu, Archbishop of York, has been appointed as the first chancellor of the University of Cumbria.
The Archbishop said: "To be part of a university which will reflect the Christian values and the creative traditions on which it was founded is an exciting prospect."
University of Cumbria vice-chancellor Prof Chris Carr said: "He is a national figure who has spoken publicly about issues such as social justice and equality with great intelligence and integrity, issues which are also central to the mission of the university."
