KERBSIDE recycling in South Lakeland is to be rolled out to the Lake District in the autumn to save thousands of tonnes of rubbish from being dumped in landfill sites.
The last 11,000 homes to be included in the scheme represents the final piece of the jigsaw and will mean the whole of South Lakeland will be helping to recycle materials.
The new extension was agreed at a meeting of South Lakeland District Council's cabinet on Wednesday and will see the roll out of 25,000 recycling boxes and 22,000 wheelie bins to rural parts of Kendal and the Lakes area.
SLDC has been able to fund the £450,000 extension after winning a grant from the Cumbria Strategic Waste Partnership.
